If you’re a Piano Pilgrim, “social distancing” isn’t probably in your personal top-5 of competences. We tend to travel the world to play new Pianos, meet new people and involve others wherever the occasion rises. Well, not today! We’re as locked-down as millions of you all over the world. Our flights get cancelled, our trains stopped and our favorite piano festivals cancelled.
Of course, we want to take our responsibility to bring a devastating virus to a halt, which brings us to today’s title:
Many of our governments demand us to remain at home and sit this one out, to protect ourselves and the ones around us that might be even more vulnerable to Covid-19. I’d say it’s time to take a good advice and follow instructions, as counternatural as it feels. Since we’ve got time to spare, we’ll reflect on a cherished musical encounter with a remarkable group of people.
Occasionally, we find ourselves in communities we never knew existed and get overwhelmed by their hospitality and kindness. We’re playing Spiel Mich 2019, Karlsruhe (DE) and find a special piano on their map called COLA-TAXI-OKAY (their Facebook, Website). With a mysterious name like that, their place open on Sundays 3 to 7PM only, we definitely want to find out about this piano and the people behind it.
Read about them in your language of choice. We’ll stick to this: everything they stand for and all Events the organize get summarized in three four-letter English words, like COOK-MOMS-FOOD, PLAY-YOUR-SONG or GOOD-AFRO-VIBE. Germany may not be known for its ability to speak anything other than German, but this community of youngsters is proud to welcome any visitor in no less than 10 different languages. We’d recommend you to stop by if you’re around Karslruhe, have a glass of wine and play some music with them, it’s time well spent!
In times like there, you’ll see these are good people to numerous communities and cultures around them in Karlsruhe (DE). Their announcement offering help to anyone in need of anything, THAT’s the spirit we picked up when visiting them in 2019. We salute you brothers, thanks for all the good you to bring to this world and we look forward to meeting you again in 2021.
STAY-SAFE-GANG and enjoy playing!
