(2021 disclaimer: Whether we like it or not, Covid-19 changed the world in numerous ways. Our 2021 prediction presumes returning to some sort of normality, based on events history. To the best of our abilities, we’ll follow Public Piano announcements as well as general pandemic updates.)

About this USA Venue/Event

The piano placed in the Louisiana Food Court at Gator by the Bay serves as an introduction to the Piano Project to all our attendees. It will be available to play by anyone who wants to tickle the ivory! Welcome to San Diego, California, , United States.

About the Organizer

The Piano Project consists of unrelated worldwide community outreach organizations that aim to resettle unwanted pianos into schools and community centers that could not otherwise afford them. Because of their cost to move and maintain, people often choose to throw pianos away, sell them for parts, and even burn them for firewood. The Piano Project endeavors to save these pianos from the landfill and reroute them to classrooms, public spaces and living rooms where they will be put to good use.

The San Diego based Piano Project is a philanthropic endeavor founded by Kenneth Rexrode. The Piano Project facilitates the donation of pianos and other musical instruments to community centered organizations. The Piano Project is supported in part through both monetary and instrument donations from music loving members of the community.

  1. I have an out of tune Yamaha grand piano to donate. Any interest or other suggestions for repurposing the piano?

  2. Depends on where you (and the piano) are based. We’re not open for pianos donations ourselves, sorry, so suggestion: Find your nearest Public Piano organizer (on our site, we include their site/FB, or elsewhere on the web) and drop them a line. Hope it helps you and you piano! Have a good one.

  3. I am organizing a piano project for San Luis Obispo county Ca. and would love to hear from someone in your organization regarding some of the issues you have faced and how to overcome them. I have received approval from a local non-profit to act as an umbrella organization and have a first donated piano. Thanks in advance for your kind assistance. My phone is 805-431-7097.
