Ghent (BE) – 123 Piano 2020 – expect 6 pianos – dates TBC
August 15, 2020 - September 21, 2020
After playing Ghent in both 2017 and 2019, take our word for a must-visit to this friendly breathing Flemish city during their annual multi-piano festival “123 Piano”.
About the Pianos
Although 5 – 7 street pianos might not sound too attractive to justify your trip, we highly recommend their pianos for reasons:
- Quality – Due to their strong relationship to the city’s largest piano store, players can expect first class street pianos, both uprights and baby-grands, well maintained and good looking.
- Creativity – Ghent year by year keeps surprising us with the variety of their artwork and technical expertise to do fun stuff with their pianos. Stroboscope lights, robot-voices over any played keys, humongous structures around their pianos, we’ve seen it all and appreciated it well!
- Cabinets – Where PMIY tends to cover their pianos with thick plastic, 123 Piano thought well about protection their pianos during rain periods, by building them into small cabinets. On the one end, they can be opened and closed within the blink of an eye, on the other it gives their artists some extra options to get creative building their view boxes.
About the Venue/Event
As stated, Ghent is a beautiful and friendly Flemish city, well reachable by public transport. Once in the city, pianos are usually at walking distances. Add to that Belgium having a strong Burgundian history and you’re up for a treat during your visit.
The 2020 edition will be announced in due course – ususally just a few weeks before –
on the 123Piano Facebook page.
About the Organizer
Our quirky friends from Ghent have years of experience organizing street piano festivals. Their creative nature helps them delivering quality over quantity pianos, where their strong ties to the city’s largest pianos store ensure funding to make it all happen. After visiting their sponsor’s beautiful Quatre Mains Klaviercentrum, we think we’ve found the secret to their year-over-year success.
Stay safe, have fun playing!
